New Floor - 2024
The Lismore Basketball Stadium floor suffered irreparable damage during the 2022 flood through inundation of water in the subfloor.
After being unsuccessful in claiming on insurance, the removal and replacement of the floor was approved to be funded by the Natural Disaster Relief Assistance Program, which is co-funded by NSW Public Works and the Commonwealth Government.
Lismore City Council and Lismore Basketball separately applied for Office of Sport Grants as part of the Sport Infrastructure Recovery Fund, to fund essential subfloor works and improvements for future flood resilience and drainage. The one obtained by Lismore City Council, being the Sport Priority Needs Program and the other obtained by Lismore Basketball Association, being Essential Community Sports Asset Program.
Bennett Constructions were awarded the contract to complete works and following a lot of consultation, planning and preparation, began late January.
The initial stage of works required a section of the block wall on the southern side was removed to allow machinery access. A roller door will be installed once works are complete.
The grandstand has been dismantled and will be replaced with a new similar grandstand.
The timber floor and all existing bearers and joists have been removed and a waffle slab will replace the dirt subfloor and includes subsoil drainage to avoid future water inundation. Then timber joists on slab, followed by plywood and finally the blackbutt timber flooring.
The project is expected to be completed by mid June.
